MUMBAI – In a high-octane encounter at the Wankhede Stadium, the Punjab Kings (PBKS) pulled off a clinical chase to defeat the Mumbai Indians (MI) by 7 wickets, spoiling a historic night for Quinton de Kock.
The De Kock Century
Returning to the MI lineup with a point to prove, Quinton de Kock was in sublime touch. He hammered a magnificent 112 off just 60 balls*, featuring 8 boundaries and 7 massive sixes. Supported by a brisk 50 from Naman Dhir, Mumbai looked set for a massive total. However, PBKS spearhead Arshdeep Singh proved to be the difference-maker, finishing with figures of 3/22 and executing perfect yorkers in the death overs to restrict MI to 195/6.
The Clinical Chase
Despite a target of nearly 200, the Punjab Kings showed no signs of pressure. After an early exit for Priyansh Arya, Prabhsimran Singh and Captain Shreyas Iyer took the MI bowling attack to the cleaners.
• Prabhsimran Singh: Played the aggressor, smashing 80 off 39 balls*.
• Shreyas Iyer: Anchored the chase with a stylish 66 off 35 balls.
The duo put on a 139-run partnership that drained the life out of the Mumbai defense. Jasprit Bumrah (0/41) and Hardik Pandya (0/39) struggled to find their rhythm as PBKS crossed the finish line with 21 balls to spare, finishing at 198/3.
Points Table Standings
With this victory, the Punjab Kings climb to the top of the IPL 2026 table, marking their fourth win of the season. Meanwhile, the Mumbai Indians remain stuck in the bottom half, needing a quick turnaround as the tournament moves into its middle phase.
